What Are We About?

The CaliAmi Partners, LLC, is an organization based in both Los Angeles and Miami. It was founded by two recent Florida State University graduates and is intended to be a resource for students entering college. After initially collaborating to co-author I’m Tired of Being Broke, The CaliAmi Partners are focused on providing young collegians with tools geared toward achieving financial independence and total wellness. Our mission is to create a legion in which all adolescents and transitioning adults, males and females, can identify with. Since our inception in 2007, our goal has been to equip students with a manual and a vision of what it takes to flourish beyond the classroom so they are better equipped to fully transition into adulthood. Ultimately, our commitment is to share our vision with institutions of higher education, colleges and universities both public and private. As young adults who understand the struggle that comes with transitioning into independent adulthood, we directly relate with all the people we are trying to reach.

"Dose of Reality" Volume.1 Issue.6-Arm Thrash & Eye Bash

Being broke covers more than lack of adequate finances. In addition to lack of funds, we exhaust our resources physically.

As told by Samantha Squalls:

About a week ago I was in church giving praise with my daughter in my arms ( the choir was from Japan; they were EXCELLENT). Full of the spirit of the moment, she begins thrashing her arms. Before you know it, her jubilant little fist met my unsuspecting eye. The blow dropped me to my seat where my right eye throbbed . I thought , “Oh, the pain will subside. It’s just a hit to the eye,” but it extended further than anything I imagined .

After the pain didn’t subside I knew I had some choices to make. I told anyone who’d listen, how my eye hurt, but no one understood . My cherry red eye teared and watered constantly and I woke up every hour Sunday night in pain. I was forced to phone an ophthalmologist, but as soon as I made my appointment, I pondered, “How am I going to pay for this visit?” Now I’m physically and literally broke; I need some serious repair.

Free clinics are out there and have dependable, respectable doctors.

As told by Baronessa Bonano:

I’ve concluded that financial security won’t cure a broken spirit and after being debriefed on the Rihanna-Chris Brown incident, a flood of thoughts swam through my mind. I wondered what made lil homie go off the handle like that? I’m saddened by the news, but more troubled by the Giant magazine article that was referenced in various media outlets. His story hits close to home as my own memories of anger and frustration welled up, breaking the dam on my personal bank of nightmares. Things happen during childhood that are out of your control. Experiencing domestic abuse is one of them. People respond differently to the curve balls life throws you. Some of us turn those at-bats into hits and some of us strike out.

From my own experience, there’s nothing worse than watching a loved one take abuse, especially your mother. I can attest to harboring murderous feelings toward the attacker, but when he’s your father, you try your best to file them away while attributing his behavior to his own years of unfortunate circumstance. Regardless of what the cause is, it is not right to assault another person without provocation, however, gentlemen, even in the event that a woman incites you, remember: cooler heads prevail. I vowed that I would never repeat the cycle and believe me, after my own close call, I learned immediately, violence never resolves the issue .

If you’ve been a victim of or are currently subject to abuse, please understand that you’re not alone. There are plenty of free resources available to you to help you get out of your situation. Love and God Bless.
